Hi,

I've just discovered i need my wellies to get into my Galaxy !!!!!!

Water in the Drivers footwell, carpet absolutely sodden.

From a bit of internet reseach this appears it could be;

1. Scuttle drains blocked - Where are these and how do i get to them?

2. Ingress from engine somehow?

Is this a ford Warranty issue, how do i get my carpets dry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The amount of water is increadable. Help needed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pre- or post- facelift? There is loads of info on this site on the subject of water ingress. Try a search.

Good luck.

Note that the water in the footwell problem has two possible causes. Leaking rear washer fluid (well covered on this site) and a blocked scuttle drain covered here and elsewhere. Diagnosis is simple. If the footwell floods after heavy rain then you have the scuttle drain problem. If it floods in dry weather then you have the washer fluid problem.

This scuttle drain problem was relatively easier to solve on my 1996 Galaxy so read this before trying the other posts, which are less complete. The bulkhead (under the windscreen wiper mechanism at the base of the windsreeen) fills up with leaves and other crap. There is a drain hole at the back corner of it about 1.5 inches by 2 inches underneath the pollen filter but you cannot get your hand into that part of the bulkhead. The trick is to take the inner plastic wheel arch cover (on the inside of the front passenger side wheelarch or nearside front). This is held on by six or seven star shaped screws and is very easy to get off. Start undoing the screws from the back - forwards because this plastic inner wing arch is flexible and you'll probably only need to undo 4 screws maximum. Note that some screws are not easy to see so feel inside the wheelarch for them. Pull the inner plastic wheel arch cover wing away (should come away easily unless you've missed a screw) until you have enough space to get your hand up inside the wheel arch.

On the inner wing of the car (the structural part of the car that would still be there if you took the visible wing off), you'll find there is a plastic drain cover with a rubber flap (which it supposed to act as a one way valve). If this drain cover feels blocked then pull it off. Now it is off you'll be able to clear the hole properly because you'll be able to insert two fingers into the bulkhead and remove any crap that has blocked the drain hole from the outside in.

After you've cleaned the joints with your mother in law's toothbrush, use some epoxy resin like "Araldite" to glue the plastic drain hole cover back on. Screw the wheel arch cover back on and Bob's your father's brother.

Replace your mother in law's toothbrush after a quick rinse.

:D Hi, I have tried everything you sugested and the scuttle drains were clean as a whistle, but still have a leak coming in on drivers side though, as comes in right up under the fuse box where the wiring loom comes down with the bonnet release catch. It comes in everytime it rains but can't see where it is coming from.

Any help would be gratefull.

Well, i seemed to have sorted it out but it took some doing ! I had to cut out all the underlay from under the carpet. the mold showed me where the water was ingressing.

The water was coing in through the metal seams. I poured a jug of water on the winsceen then just watched as the water seaped in !

I got some bathroom sealant and sealed all alon the metal seams.

And its now bone dry every time it rains ! I've not put the carpet back yet and will have to replace the underlay.

Just got to get rid of the musty smell now !

Well finally got the leak sorted and it was the seams that were letting water through so filled them with a rubber silicone sealant and done both sides just in case.

Thanks for all the information about this and hope it helps others as well. :

Thanks to COLDCALL - your info on the drain hole being blocked solved my problem and saved me a hefty bill - my local dealer asked me to book my car in for 2 days to find the leak!

Had my wiper mechanism replaced at a local 'garage'. Since then full of water in passenger side. To dry this properly you'll need to cut the 1.5" of soundproofing out from under the fitted carpet (this will never dry out on its own, it holds a massive amount of water). I re-newed the long rubber seal that fits under the wiper tray (that's the tray you have to remove to get at the wiper mechanism and the pollen filter, held in by three bolts). Fords couldn't find this on their parts database so I bought one from Seat for
